An Open Letter To Olamide ” Law Of Diminishing Return “

This Writer Nailed it with “ Baddo, have you heard of the point of equilibrium? That’s the point when the law of diminishing return sets in.” Share your thoughts
“I am a fan of yours and I have followed your growth from the days with ID Cabasa and the Coded Tunes crew, to your days under Toni Payne‘s management. Parting ways with her was quite risky but I felt it was a move worth making as you needed a fully dedicated management to grow your career. That move paid off and you’re now better off for it.
Pitching your tent with 1805 Entertainment, your immense talent and the void left by Dagrin‘s demise meant only one thing – A top spot for you! I am glad you fit in perfectly. A bolder move to start YBNL Nation and you going ahead to drop your second album on the YBNL Nation/1805 Entertainment imprint was another risky move that still paid off. At that point, I knew the ‘god of music’ was behind you.
Though it wasn’t so surprising to see the street embrace the album cos of it quality street wise content, the rate at which the ‘butties’ accepted you too was alarming. People preached the YBNL gospel and gladly talked about how good the album was. Even my cool friend Fola Alade became an advocate of ‘Razz being the new Cool’, no thanks to you. But while we where enjoying Jale, Street Love, Jesu O kola, Stupid Love, First of All, Ilefo Illuminati amongst other beautiful songs, dear Olamide, you unconsciously killed the album!
Yes, you unfortunately killed it by releasing too many materials not so long after the album dropped and you shifted our attention off the album. To make matters worse, some of these songs were not half as good as the songs on the album and they also were not wellpromoted, Confession, Tonto Dike, Baddest Nigga That ever liveth, e.t.c. Needless to say that some were also really good, cos some of us still have Turn Up and Durosoke topping our playlists.
Baddo, have you heard of the point of equilibrium? That’s the point when the law of diminishing return sets in. It happens to everything and everyone. In simple terms, it’s the point where you get to the peak, have nothing extra to offer and the drop starts. To some, the drop might not be deep while to some, they would never rise to that point again. Unfortunately, this happens a lot in the music industry. While we agree that you are HOT at this moment and the inspiration is much, brother, please do not wear yourself out. Ma le ara e ni ere.
Truth is when you saturate the market with too many materials, we get tired easily, we don’t pay full attention to them and the songs end up not getting as much love as they should. Keep recording, keep saving them in the cloud and don’t push too many songs within a short period. Let the fans yearn for more, let us savour the goodness of some of what you already have.
On a final note, I love the way your personality is gradually evolving ‘cos building a brand of yourself should be beyond your music. I foresee a near future where corporate brands that want to connect with the streets would come to you, simply because you are the link between the streets and the corporate world. A celebrated grass to grace story. The true voice of the streets.

Interview: Birdman Reacts To Kendrick Lamar's "Control" Verse" & Talks About Drake's "Nothing Was The Same"

Earlier this week, Birdman came through the Agenda tradeshow in Las Vegas to debut two new clothing lines called YMCMB and Rich Gang. The gear was fresh. But it's not set to hit shelves next until spring.
We're always interested in the Cash Money mogul's thoughts on what's happening right now. In the face of several severe journalistic hurdles—Birdman insisting you drink repeated samples of his GTV-brand vodka (Life lesson: When Birdman offers you GTV Vodka, you can't say no. You just go, "Brrrrr" and down it); Jim Jones interrupting the interview to ask us to take a picture of him and his kid posing with Birdman's face tats—we got a few minutes to chop it up with a dude perched quite comfortably atop the game.
Sitting in a plush tradeshow booth in Vegas, Birdman gave us his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar mentioning Drake in his "Control" verse. And not mentioning Lil' Wayne or Nicki Minaj. Also, his initial reaction when he heard Nothing Was the Same, and what Drake's current moment means for hip-hop.
Interview by James Harris (@Dr_TacoMD)
How'd you guys respond to Kendrick Lamar naming Drake in the "Control" verse?Kendrick a friend of mine. So, I never put a label on that. His homies is my homies. So I think it's just rap. People take what we say too far. Look at what happened with Wayne and what happened with Ross and losing they deals. You know when you're being creative, it's a thought, it's a vision. So I don't take it in no kind of way. I know at the end of the day Kendrick got nothing but love for us, and we got nothing but love for him. I don't look at it as nothing more than that.

"People take what we say too far. Look at what happened with Wayne and what happened with Ross and losing they deals. You know when you're being creative, it's a thought, it's a vision"

What about the fact that he didn't name Wayne or Nicki?
That's what I'm saying, I don't look at it like that. I mean, he hustling and he trynna feed his family, but like I say. Kendrick? Homie. Top Dawg and us, we like brothers. Kendrick is my lil' brother, I got nothing but love for him. So I never looked at nothing, and I don't weigh it like that, how other people may weigh it. He still the homie, and nothing gonna change. I think people take niggas' lyrics too far out of context. That's just my take on it.

Can you tell us anything about Drake's album coming up? We're all salivating.
Man, I think Drake is one of one. There's no duplicating him. He's one of the most talented I ever been around in my life. I heard the majority of the album, and what he doing, no one has ever done in the business.

With this album, Drake seems primed to claim the throne and get that undisputed title. You think that’s gonna happen? It’s his time. Ain’t no secret. When you say “claim the throne,” I don’t know what you mean by that. But when I say it’s his time, I mean he’s by far one of the most talented to date. He holds his own weight, he’s one of the most creative people I ever been around in my life, outside of my son Wayne and Nicki.

They all have been very creative, but he’s standing alone on his own. His work ethic is crazy, and I’m super excited. I just feel like this is the time, everything he been through, and the music he do. That set of tracks he just put out? That shit is incredible! And he played it for me, I’m like, “Boy, I saw this before.”

'If You Can't Shape Up, Shape Out' - Controversial Ruggedman Replies Mode 9

Rugged Man was speaking on Hot FM’s breakfast radio show and did not mince words. He said “Mode 9 is not the only one that does the non-commercial kind of rap. Basically if you are an entertainer you can’t do music for yourself that’s why you are an entertainer.
‘IF People you are made to entertain are not entertained, you should do one of two things…get another job or adapt’ am not saying this to be funny or anything’. If something is not working anymore the least you can do is try and adapt to what’s up’
‘Even in America at a point it was all Eastside …then Westside, you can’t do anything about it, if you can’t shape up, you shape out’
‘I actually started writing ‘ehen’ song in English but Paul play advised me ‘you are in Nigeria, make music for Nigerians, add the local language so people could understand, I put a little comedy to it by bringing in Normoreloss,
‘It’s not about how good you are but how smart you are. I have said it ‘i don’t want to be ‘he can rap kinda artist’ but ‘to be a successful artist’. ‘Switching your style doesn’t make you any less of a human cos at the end of the day ‘what you have achieved is what would be asked.
Mode 9 had recently lamented the neglect of his type of non commercial rap saying that He dropped an album ‘alphabetical order’ earlier this year and no one cared.

I Released An Album And Nobody Cared...Rapper Mode9 Cries Out! LOL

Nigeria's Veteran Award winning Rapper Babatunde Olusegun a.k.a Mode 9 went all emotional on hotfm’s breakfast radio show with TuTu Adeoba and Cheezy Charles on his type of non-commercial rap, he re-affirms that he can never change his type of rap to suit an audience and decries neglect on his type of music
‘I put out a whole album nobody cared’ ‘A whole 20 track album ‘alphabetical order’ nobody gave a f**k’, nobody cares. ‘You see how the industry is’ how do you expect me to feel? ‘Nigerians don’t like hip hop they only follow the hype, they don’t even know what it is’
'I only cater for my real fans; I don’t really care about the fair weather, band wagon jumpers ‘I cater for my fans and they are feeling it’ i have put up too much effort in promotion of my materials’
“It’s just some certain people in their minds feeling that I’m not doing well’ I have decided I am going to attack anybody who calls me up and asks ‘where have you been?’ I have attacked everyone that has done that, I am not afraid of anybody. It’s just the way they think. If your music is not playing in clubs then you are not putting out the best. My music is not club music;  I didn’t put out a club album.
''Real fans of Mode 9 know where it’s happening and know how to get it. They’ve seen it on TV and they loved it. So I think I’m doing a great job. Imagine you doing all this and someone walking up to you and asking, common where’ve you been? Imagine how bad you’ll feel after spending millions of naira to promote yourself from your own pocket.''
He also cleared the air about the purported biff with Vector concerning controversial single ‘the truth’ released in July allegedly by Vector which was widely reported as a diss track targeting mode 9.
Mode said “I don’t have any biff with Vector. Vector was even on my album. The night that song was released, Vector called me and said someone was trying to sabotage him. He said the song was recorded in 2009 but whoever pushed it out in July had some part doctored. Since Vector called me before the song started making the waves I believed him. I even tweeted that I’m cool with Vector. We both tweeted that we are cool with each other. But people still went on to blow the story; begging for a war; I’m sorry but we won’t be given anybody a war”

Boy Flies From Benin To Lagos In Arik Aircraft’s Wheel Akinlabi Abiodun August 25, 2013 0

A teenage boy left many speechless as he breached Airport security in Benin when he clinged onto the tyre hold of an Arik Aircraft from Benin to Lagos which had top Edo Governement officials on board.
The Aircraft with registration number, 5N-MJG Flight 44, left Benin Airport at 9am for Lagos and when it landed at the domestic wing of MMA in Lagos, the boy jumped out and was later arrested to know what his mission was.
Here is what the airline’s spokesperson, Banji Ola said about the incident below;
The management of Arik Air has expressed shock over the incident wondering how the teenager beat the Aviation Security personnel at the Benin Airport to get to the runway.
The pilot of Arik Air flight W3 544, departing Benin Airport for Lagos at 9.00am today 24th August, 2013 reported to the control tower the presence of a strange boy in the bush about 200 – 300 meters at the end of runway 23.
The control tower told the Captain that they were sending security men to the place to arrest the boy.
As the captain was making his final turn, preparatory for take-off, a cabin crew called his attention to the information by some of the passengers that they saw a boy running towards the airplane. The First Officer confirmed that they had observed it earlier and alerted the control tower which responded that they have sent the patrol team to arrest the boy.
The Captain again reported to the control tower and was informed that the situation was under control and that he had been cleared for take-off. On arrival at the domestic wing of MMA, Lagos, a teenage boy, who apparently had sneaked into the aircraft main wheel well jumped out and was arrested by Arik personnel and handed over to FAAN security.
